Released in April, Koonyum Sun features bassist Tio Moloantoa and percussionist Andile Nqubezelo who make up Izintaba. The album’s 13 songs mark a musical awakening for Rudd who showed his sombre side on 2008’s Dark Shades of Blue.

Rudd released his debut album To Let in Australia in 2002 and built a burgeoning grass-roots fan base. He followed it up with Solace (2004), Food in the Belly (2005) and White Moth (2007) which became best sellers in Australia, alongside his gold-selling live DVD Good Spirit (2006).

Rolling Stone magazine said, “…a singer-songwriter with a tenaciously laid-back mien and a love for both surfing and classic roots sounds.”

Of his live performance, The New York Times said, “...he struck a sure bond with his jam-happy audience, encourage rapture as well as a sense of belonging.”

Since his debut, Rudd has travelled the globe, performing at the world’s biggest festivals, including Glastonbury, Japan’s SummerSonic, Australia’s Byron Bay Blues Festival, Bonnaroo and Austin City Limits.
